About the job:  To help support Pleora’s business growth in Japan/Asia we are searching for a dynamic Field Applications Engineer to be based in Tokyo, Japan. This individual will provide technical engineering support during pre-and-post sales phases through engagement with camera and image device designers, system integrators, end-users, and distributors, as well as collaborating with our internal sales & marketing, product management and engineering teams.

Solving complex problems on a daily basis, you will work with the sales team to target key and emerging accounts for Pleora’s growth opportunities in Asia. This includes working closely with the extended Pleora team to broaden the opportunity for our products and professional services as we expand into new sensor networking, IoT, machine vision, machine learning, AI, and embedded markets. You have the capacity to suggest new technologies and provide different design approaches that make for top-selling products. You will be provided the opportunity to travel, work with engineers on leading-edge designs, and close design and product contracts. You will maintain good customer relations, backing up technical claims to assure customers of the value and reliability of the offered solutions.

What you will be doing:

·     Be the point of contact with customers integrating Pleora solutions within their systems

·     Communicate unique technical selling points, and explanations for products as part of pre-sales activities

·     Provide technical solutions and communications to customers when support is requested as part of post-sales initiatives

·     Conduct technical onboarding and training sessions for new customers and design wins

·     Isolate, reproduce, and resolve customer technical support issues

·     Investigate system-level interactions between Pleora products and customer environments (PC, hardware, OS, LAN, cameras, etc.)

·     Create and maintain knowledge base articles and application notes, review technical publications

·     Coordinate feedback from pre-released product field trials and perform product validation to ensure specific customer requirements are met

·     Internally disseminate technical feedback on products, such as feature requests, competitive information and details on technical support issues

·     Ability to travel within the Japan and Asia region – approximately a 25% basis – including quarterly visits to Pleora Headquarters in Ottawa, Canada

Experience & Education you will need:

·     Seven+ years of related work experience

·     Degree in Computer Science, Systems or Electrical Engineering, or related field; or a combination of education and industry related experience

·     Fluency in both English and Japanese, written and verbal communication

·     Experience  working with North American or European based companies

·     Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills

·     Expert troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills

·     Ability to establish potential alternate solutions and various test setups

·     Ability to take initiative and drive for results

·     Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions

·     Demonstrated ability to build strong, influential customer relationships

·     Ability to work effectively in an interrupt-driven, fast-paced environment, using tact and diplomacy when dealing with global customers

·     Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex system behaviours to those not intimately familiar with the product

·     Ability to draw out the key issues from customers, distil the details into focused summaries and communicate information to the appropriate individual

·     Ability to work and make technical decisions independently when necessary due to the unavailability support from headquarters as a result of the time zone difference

Expert in some of the following:

o   Application level experience, particularly image processing, streaming and/or compression hardware and software solutions

o   Working with solutions in the IoT, industrial/machine vision, medical imaging and military imaging industries

o   Software and/or embedded and/or hardware development

o   C, C++, scripting languages, in Windows and/or Linux

o   Low-level configuration of PC system internals including drivers, and IP configuration
